From Ancient History to People Science

I studied Ancient History at the University of Bristol while working part-time as a barista at Café Nero. I was drawn to the People Science Graduate Scheme because of the breadth of experience it offered. I was a little concerned that not having a financial background would put me at a disadvantage. But once I joined, I realised that other graduates had come from various degrees and industries. We’re stronger for our differences: they help us to better represent the colleagues and customers we serve.

No average day

Because the scheme has rotations, you are constantly working on different projects, with different teams, and building skills along the way. My first placement was in the Modern Workplace Team, where I helped to design workspaces to support productivity. In my Tech & Data placement, I analysed group-wide data, identified trends, and helped with improvements that will have a lasting impact on my colleagues. In another rotation, I worked on the transformation of the Group’s performance framework, which was a real highlight for me.

Confidence building from day one

The work environment here is incredibly welcoming and supportive. I've never felt like "just a graduate" and have always been encouraged to contribute, challenge myself and share my ideas. That level of trust helped me build confidence from day one. I’ve been encouraged to step outside of my comfort zone, keep learning, and embrace new challenges. Since joining, I’ve completed a CIPD Level 7 qualification.

Inspired by women

One network that's particularly close to my heart is Breakthrough Women. It champions gender inclusion across Lloyds Banking Group and creates opportunities to learn from inspiring colleagues through events, podcasts, panels and networking opportunities. Hearing inspiring stories from across the bank fuels my own ambition further, and I hope one day I can inspire others like the women in this network inspire me.
