Are you eligible and when’s the closing date?
Lloyds Banking Group wants to hear from people of all backgrounds, and the recruitment process gives everyone the chance to shine. If you're in your penultimate year of university, they'd love you to apply. If they receive a high volume of applications, they may close the opportunity early, so it's best to apply as soon as you can.
If you need extra support…
Just let them know. They fully support the career development of people with neurodiverse conditions, including but not limited to Autism, Asperger's, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Dyspraxia.
On the application form, you can disclose if you have a neurodiverse condition. If you select 'yes,' the team will contact you to discuss your needs. Please wait to complete the online assessment until they've talked about any reasonable adjustments for the process.
Summer Internship Application Process
For Finance, Risk, Everyday Banking and Consumer Lending
Fill out the application form. Once you've found the internship that's right for you, click the apply button. You'll be asked to register by completing a form with some details about yourself.
A CV or covering letter are not required, and sole reliance on your past experiences is not the approach. During all stages, they're more interested in how you share their values and demonstrate your potential.
Complete the online assessment. This gives you an insight into the Group and how they support their customers and communities. You'll be guided through it and it should take around 60 minutes. Find a quiet spot, free from distractions and have a pen, paper and calculator at hand.
Some accessibility features of the online assessment include: closed captions on all audio content, question text displayed at a minimum size of 14px, keyboard navigation, and the ability to zoom in and out of content on screen.
You'll receive a feedback report within a few days of completing the assessment.
If successful at the Online Assessment stage, you'll be invited to complete the Job Insight Assessment.
This stage gives better insight into the role you're applying to and enables you to experience some of the activities you may be required to undertake if successful. You'll be presented with scenarios where you'll answer multiple questions. Responses will be required in different formats, including video and written. These questions will be time-limited or time-recorded.
The final stage is the assessment centre. To prepare, you'll need to complete some pre-work, and full details will be provided well in advance.
On the day, they'll assess you through a series of different exercises, including a one-to-one interview, a group exercise and some individual assessments. The assessors you'll meet are colleagues at Lloyds Banking Group and you'll also get to talk with some current graduates.
For virtual assessment centres, you'll need access to a laptop or tablet and a good internet connection. If you don't have access to a laptop or tablet, Lloyds Banking Group can help by giving you access to a laptop within one of their offices, and can support with travel expenses.

Great decision! The application process for our Technology Engineering and Data Science and AI Industrial Placements is slightly different than for our other opportunities. The information below tells you what to expect.

Are you eligible?
We want to hear from people of all backgrounds and our recruitment process gives everyone the chance to shine. So if you're in your penultimate year of university then we'd love you to apply.
Because of the technical nature of this placement, you’ll need some coding knowledge alongside your love of technology and a strong desire to learn. Studying for a computer science or related degree isn’t essential, but you’ll need an understanding of at least one current programming language or framework, such as (but not limited to), JavaScript, Java, C# or Python. This will be assessed throughout the application process.
When's the closing date?
If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close the opportunity early. This could be before the published closing date, so it’s best to apply as soon as you can. For us to consider your application, you need to have completed both your application form and online assessment before the closing date.
Technology and Data Science and AI application process
During all stages, we're also interested in how you share our values and demonstrate your potential, alongside the technical skills that you can demonstrate.
Technology Engineering
As part of the application process for our Technology Engineering Industrial Placement Scheme, candidates will complete a series of tasks designed to assess a broad range of technical and analytical skills. The total time allocated for this assessment is 130 minutes.
What to Expect
You’ll be asked to complete tasks that cover the following areas:
API Development & Data Handling: You’ll implement an API endpoint that validates structured input and safely handles JSON data. This task assesses your ability to work with web technologies and manage data securely.
Available languages: C++ 17, Dart, Go, Java 17, JavaScript, Kotlin, Python, Ruby, Rust, TypeScript
Transactional Data Management: This task explores your understanding of transactional systems, including operations like commit, rollback, and nested transactions, within a key-value store context.
Available languages: Go, Java, JavaScript, Python
Graph-Based Problem Solving: You’ll work on a graph-based optimisation challenge that involves assigning values to maximise a result based on relationships between data points.
Available languages: C, C++, C#, Dart, Go, Java 11, Java 21, JavaScript, Kotlin, Lua, Objective-C, Pascal, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, Rust, Scala, Swift, TypeScript, Visual Basic
Data Science and AI
As part of the application process for our Data Science & AI Industrial Placement Scheme, candidates will complete a series of tasks designed to assess a broad range of analytical, technical, and conceptual skills.
What to Expect
You’ll be asked to complete tasks that cover the following areas:
SQL Querying: You’ll write queries to explore data, using techniques such as self-joins and conditional filtering. This task assesses your ability to work with relational databases and extract meaningful insights from structured data.
Languages: PostgreSQL, SQLite
Statistical Reasoning with Code: You’ll apply statistical formulas to determine whether two variables are independent, using Python to implement your solution. This task combines analytical thinking with coding skills.
AI Awareness & Responsible Use: A multiple-choice questions will assess your understanding of artificial intelligence, with a focus on ethical and responsible use in real-world scenarios.
Machine Learning Fundamentals: Another multiple-choice questions will test your foundational knowledge of machine learning concepts, algorithms, and terminology.
We encourage all candidates to complete all tasks, even if some areas feel more challenging than others. We’re looking for a range of skills, and your performance across different areas helps us build a fuller picture of your potential. Don’t be put off if one task feels unfamiliar—give it your best shot!

The final stage of the application process is the assessment centre. To prepare for this, you’ll need to complete some pre-work, and we’ll provide full details well in advance.
On the day, we’ll assess you through a series of different exercises, including a one-to-one interview, a group exercise, a technical exercise and some individual assessments which will relate to the pre-work you’ve completed.
We want to get the best from you. The goal is for you to show us your strengths as well as your areas for development. But the day isn’t just about us assessing you – you’ll get to learn more about us too, about our values and our culture. The assessors you’ll meet are colleagues at Lloyds Banking Group and you’ll also get to talk with some of our current graduates who can tell you about their own journey and answer your questions.
What you’ll need
You'll need access to a laptop or tablet and have a good, stable internet connection, ideally somewhere where you can be free from distractions. You could access Microsoft Teams on a smartphone, but as you’ll be asked to review detailed information, we recommend you use a larger device instead.
We appreciate that not everyone will have access to a laptop or tablet, or a good internet connection at home. And that’s OK, we can help if that’s the case. Contact us, and we can discuss giving you access to a laptop within one of our offices. Or perhaps another solution. If you do travel to one of our offices, we can support you with travel expenses too.
How to prepare
We’ll provide clear instructions for the pre-work you’ll be required to complete, and we recommend you spend between two-three hours going through it.
Our Assessment Practice Zone will give you lots of insight into our assessments and help you consider how best to explain why you’re considering a career with us, and in particular, the programme you have applied for.
