Two subjects, one job

I’ve always been fascinated by what makes people perform and thrive at work. That led me to pursue a master’s in Occupational Psychology, where I went on to work across a range of people-focused roles. But the thing that really stayed with me was my dissertation on financial wellbeing. It brought together two areas I’d become increasingly interested in: psychology and finance. And ultimately, that’s what brought me here.

Impact that reaches the top

I haven’t looked back since. Every day is a new adventure – where I get to touch different parts of the business, from talent data and dashboards to assessment programmes and talent strategy. Even as a grad, you get to work on projects that impact everyone. The one I’ve enjoyed being a part of the most is when I got to bring psychological insights to an intervention meant for managers to make leadership feel more inclusive.

Curiosity is the driving force

The learning matches the opportunity, too. Initially, I was worried about whether I’d be able to add value right away. But my willingness to learn took me far – I’ve presented to senior stakeholders, worked across a range of teams, and improved my confidence and communication skills. I’ve also learnt how to manage people better – be it stakeholders or different audiences I’m targeting with my work.

Where the growth came from

Whatever is on my plate, I always feel supported by the Group. I’ve benefited from many graduate development opportunities, regular feedback sessions and exposure to projects that have challenged me in the best way possible. And all of this happens alongside me working towards my occupational psychology chartership qualification.

Network with a purpose

Of course, you can’t work in the People function without building your own network. I’ve been involved in graduate communities and social events, which helped me feel connected to everyone throughout. What also really helped was joining different networks – I’m part of two that are focused on inclusion and social mobility. They've connected me with people right across the Group, given me perspectives I wouldn't otherwise have had, and let me get involved in initiatives that make a genuine difference to people's lives.
