The application process

Checked out our opportunities? Decided which is right for you? Then it’s time to apply. Here you can find out exactly what’s involved. Make sure you know which is the best opportunity for you before you apply, as we only accept one application from every candidate each year.

Industrial Placements

Ready to build a career with real impact?

If you’re applying to our Data and Analytics, Risk Management or Consumer Banking Industrial Placements, here’s everything you need to know about the application process.

Our biggest tip to help you? Just be yourself. We’re not interested in perfectly performed answers. We want to hear about what makes you tick and why you believe the scheme you’ve chosen is the one for you.

Are you eligible?

We want to hear from people of all backgrounds and our recruitment process gives everyone the chance to shine. So if you are on track to get a 2:2 degree or above, and are in your penultimate year of university, then we’d love you to apply.

When’s the closing date?

Applications close once we have received enough. This could be before the published closing date, so it’s best to apply as soon as you can. For us to consider your application, you need to have completed both your application form and online assessment before the closing date.

If you need extra support…

Just let us know! We value diversity, equity and inclusion. We recruit people based on their strengths and what they can bring to our Group, rather than their experience.

We fully support the career development of people with neurodiverse conditions, including, but not limited to, Autism, Asperger’s, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Dyspraxia. On the application form, you can disclose if you have a neurodiverse condition. If you select 'yes,' our team will contact you to discuss your needs. Please wait to complete the online assessment until we've talked about any reasonable adjustments for the process.

Fill out the application form

Once you’ve found the placement that’s right for you, click the apply button. You’ll be asked to register by completing a form with some details about yourself. The good news is, we don’t require a CV or covering letter, and we don’t rely solely on your past experiences. During all stages, we’re more interested in how you share our values and demonstrate your potential.

Complete the online assessment

This gives you an insight into our Group and how we support our customers and communities. You’ll be guided through it and it should take around 60 minutes (although don’t worry if you complete it in less than that or take a little longer.

We recommend you find a quiet spot, free from distractions and have a pen, paper and calculator at hand. It’s a good idea to spend some time in our Assessment Practice Zone, to get a better idea of what you’ll be asked to do.

A few other essential details

  • Throughout the assessment you’ll be presented with information in a range of formats, including audio content, written articles, mock emails, as well as different question types. Some of the questions ask you to rank a selection of responses in order or demonstrate your preferences.
  • Your assessment is not time-limited, so you are free to stop, start and take breaks as needed.
  • Remember that we can’t consider your application until you’ve submitted your online assessment.

Some of the accessibility features of our online assessment include:

  • Closed captions on all audio content, which you can also pause
  • Question text displayed at a minimum size of 14px
  • Keyboard navigation available on assessment items
  • Ability to zoom in and out of the content on the screen.

Next steps

You’ll receive a feedback report within a few days of completing the assessment. We’ll then contact you about whether you’ve progressed to the next stage after the advertised closing date for the programme you have applied for.

This stage gives you a better understanding of the type of work you might be doing here. And it allows us to assess how you approach different challenges in a variety of true-to-life situations.

What’s involved?

The assessment takes around 60 minutes to complete so, as with our online assessment, choose a quiet spot and be prepared for any notes you may want to jot down. Again, our Assessment Practice Zone can give you a lot of insight into this assessments so make sure you check it out.

You’ll be presented with multiple scenarios with several questions exploring how you would respond, as well as data for you to analyse and interpret. There will be questions where you are required to record a video or written response within a given period.

If you need extra support

We’re here to help. If you have a disability, long-term health or neuro-diverse condition, this may have an impact on your ability to complete the assessment. Just let us know if you need extra support and we’ll be happy to discuss the adjustments we can make, such as giving you additional time or completing our alterative assessments. You’ll also have the opportunity to request additional time or other adjustments on your application form.

Next steps

If you’re successful, we’ll get be in touch to invite you to the final stage of the process and ask you to book onto one of our assessment centres.

The final stage of the application process is a half day of assessments. To prepare for this you’ll need to complete some pre-work, and we’ll provide full details well in advance.

On the day, we’ll assess you through a series of different exercises, including a one-to-one interview, a group exercise and some individual assessments which will relate to the pre-work you’ve completed.

But the day isn’t just about us assessing you – you’ll get to learn more about us too, about our values and our culture. The assessors you’ll meet are colleagues at Lloyds Banking Group and you’ll also get to talk with some of our current graduates who can tell you about their own journey and answer your questions.

We appreciate that not everyone will have access to a laptop or tablet, or a good internet connection at home. And that’s OK, we can help if that’s the case. Contact us and we can discuss giving you access to a laptop within one of our offices. Or perhaps another solution. If you do travel to one of our offices, we can support you with travel expenses too.

How to prepare

We’ll provide clear instructions for the pre-work you’ll be required to complete, and we recommend you spend between two-three hours going through it.

Hear from our recent graduates

Before you get started, here’s a few tips some of our graduates wanted to share.

Useful tips

We want to know how you feel about our industry and why it interests you. And we’d love to hear examples of how you live our values. Whether it’s your experience of volunteering or your ambitions to get involved in our charity work, how can you help us achieve our purpose of helping Britain prosper while achieving your goals too?

Strengths-based interviews are a bit different to traditional assessments. We want to learn where your natural skills lie, so be sure you’re ready to tell us. And if you’re invited to an assessment day, we’ll be looking to see how you do things across various exercises – on your own and within a group.

We recognise that everyone is different and we’ve tried to make our application process accessible to everyone.  If you need access to a laptop within one of our offices, have any accessibility requirements or need any other help to complete any stage of the assessment process, email us at lloydsbankinggrouptalent@peoplescout.co.uk or call 0345 330 4576.
