A project that changed everything
While I was at university, I did a consulting project with a local social enterprise, helping them explore how investment could support economic growth in their community. Seeing the impact a good commercial decision can have on real people’s lives made me realise I wanted a career where I could use my analytical thinking to do something that matters. The Wealth and Insurance scheme became the obvious choice to achieve exactly that. It also helped that I had interned at Lloyds Banking Group in the summer of 2024, so I knew what I was coming back to: supportive people, meaningful work, and an organisation that really invests in your development.
Not a single average day
What I didn’t realise was just how much variety is built into the scheme. Given the rotational nature of it, you can always have something new to learn, be it through the incredible people you cross paths with or the interesting projects that land on your desk. A project that really stuck with me was one where I had to explore how AI can be embedded into the team’s day-to-day. I had to interview my colleagues to understand where smart tech could improve efficiency and knowledge-sharing which ultimately opened up more time to deliver customer value. While it was definitely an interesting project from start to finish, what kept me hooked wasn’t just the cool tech. It was the process of understanding people and how they work in teams.
Being new isn’t a disadvantage
The culture is one of a kind, too. People are genuinely welcoming and always willing to carve out their time for you. It doesn’t matter if you need help with something new or just want to hear about their own experiences; the team’s got your back.
This is also a place where your perspective carries weight, even if you’re a graduate. As long as you bring your curiosity, willingness to learn, and the ability to look at the same problem differently, you’ll find yourself thriving here.
Having my cohort of graduates by my side has been a highlight of my time here.
Development isn’t a separate thing
Looking back from where I started, I can already see how much I’ve grown. On top of regular development days and structured graduate programmes, you also get access to professional qualifications, AI Academy learning and continuous training through the placements. But what really stood out to me is that development is never treated as a one-and-done goal here. It’s ingrained into every process, every project and every day.
A difference outside the placements
You’d be surprised by how much impact you can have beyond the work you do here. I’ve always felt deeply about homelessness and the experiences of those who are affected by it. The Group’s partnership with Crisis gave me the chance to actually get on the ground and do something about it. I’m currently trying to raise £4,000 through the Signature Challenge, where I’ll be trekking in the Indian Himalayas to support the vital work they do. Truth be told, I didn’t expect a graduate scheme to take me here, but I’m very glad it has.
