Data and Technology Schemes

Applying to our Data Science and Analytics or Technology Engineering schemes?

The process is slightly different than for our other graduate opportunities. The information below tells you what you can expect.

Our biggest tip to help you through the process? Just be yourself. We’re not interested in perfectly performed responses. We want to hear what you’re truly passionate about and why you believe the scheme you’ve chosen is right for you.

Still not quite sure? Compare our programmes to help you decide.

Are you eligible?

We want to hear from people of all backgrounds and have created a recruitment process that gives everyone the chance to excel. So if you’ve already got a 2:2 degree or above, or are on track to achieve one, then apply. Here’s more about the requirements for individual schemes.

Data Science and Analytics

Due to the technical nature of this scheme, some knowledge of analytical techniques and experience manipulating and deriving insight from data will be a benefit. Python coding experience, knowledge of SQL and the ability to use statistical modelling techniques are all beneficial too but not essential.

Technology Engineering

Because of the technical nature of this scheme, you’ll need some coding knowledge alongside your love of technology and a strong desire to learn. A computer science or related degree isn’t essential, but you will need an understanding of at least one current programming language or framework. This includes (but is not limited to), JavaScript, Java, C# or Python. This will be assessed throughout the application process.

When’s the closing date?

Applications will open soon and will close once we have received enough applications. This could be before the published closing dates, which is why we encourage you to apply as soon as you can. For us to consider your application, you need to have completed both your application form and online assessment before the closing date.

First Stage
Step 1: Apply and first-stage assessment

Fill out the application form

Once you’ve found the ideal opportunity, click the apply button. You will then be asked to register by completing a form with some details about yourself. The good news is, we don’t require a CV and we don’t rely solely on your past successes. During all stages, we’re more interested in how you share our values and can demonstrate your potential.

Complete the first-stage assessment

This gives you an insight into our Group and how we support our customers and communities, as well as the type of work you might get involved with. It’s also a chance for us to assess your strengths, values and coding ability.

We’re looking for multiple skills, so please make sure you complete all the assessments within the technical section. This will give us an understanding of your existing knowledge and the areas you may be best suited to.

The assessment can be completed in sections and we recommend you take a break between each one. It’s a good idea to spend some time in our Assessment Practice Zone before you start, to get a better idea of what you’ll be asked to do.

A few other essential details

  • Throughout the assessment you’ll be presented with information in a range of formats, including audio content, written articles, mock emails, as well as different question types.
  • Some of the questions ask you to rank a selection of responses in order or demonstrate your preferences. You’ll also be asked to analyse and interpret the information and data you’re given.
  • The assessment includes some time-limited questions where you will have to give a written or video-recorded answer.
  • We can’t consider your application until you’ve submitted your first-stage assessment.

Some of the accessibility features of our online assessment include:

  • closed captions on all audio content, which you can also pause
  • question text displayed at a minimum size of 14px
  • keyboard navigation available on assessment items
  • ability to zoom in and out of the content on the screen.

If you need extra support

If you have a disability, long-term health or neuro-diverse condition, this may have an impact on your ability to complete the assessments. Let us know if you need extra support and we’ll be happy to discuss the adjustments we can make, such as giving you additional time. You also have the opportunity to request additional time or other adjustments within your application form.

Next steps

You’ll receive a feedback report within a few days of completing the assessment. We’ll then contact you about whether you’ve progressed to the next stage after the advertised closing date for the programme you have applied for.

Virtual Assessment
Step 2: Virtual assessment day

The final stage of the application process is a full day of assessments held virtually via Microsoft Teams.

It works in a similar way to a face-to-face assessment day, with numerous candidates and assessors involved. You’ll be asked to complete a mix of tasks, including short problem-solving style activities, a one-to-one interview as well as group-based activities.

But the day isn’t just about us assessing you – you’ll get to learn more about us too, our values and our culture. The assessors you’ll meet are colleagues at Lloyds Banking Group and you’ll also get to talk with some of our current graduates who can tell you about their own journey and answer your questions.

What you’ll need

You will need access to a laptop or tablet and a good internet connection for the full day, and ideally somewhere to sit where you can be free from distractions. You can access Microsoft Teams on a smartphone but as you’ll be asked to review detailed information, we recommend you use a larger device instead.

We appreciate that not everyone has access to a laptop or tablet, or a good internet connection at home. And that’s OK, we can help if that’s the case. Contact us and we can discuss giving you access to a laptop within one of our offices. Or perhaps another solution. If you do travel to one of our offices, we can support you with travel expenses too.

How to prepare

While there’s nothing specific you can prepare in advance, we do recommend spending time in our Assessment Practice Zone. This will give you lots of insight into our assessments and help you consider how best to articulate why you are considering a career with us, and in particular, the programme you have applied for.

Next steps

Make it through the final stage and we’ll make you an offer. Accept and there are a few official checks to complete before joining.

If you need extra support…

Simply, let us know. We value diversity, equity and inclusion. We recruit people based on their strengths and what they can bring to our Group, rather than their experience.

We’re committed to the employment and career development of people with neuro-diverse conditions. Neurodiversity covers a whole range of conditions including, but not limited to, Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia. When you complete the application form, there is an option to disclose if you have a neuro-diverse condition. If you do, a member of our team will contact you to discuss how we can support you and any reasonable adjustments we can make. Please do not complete the online assessment until you have spoken with a member of the team.

Fill out the application form

Once you’ve found the ideal opportunity, click the apply button. You will be asked to register by completing a form with some details about yourself. The good news is, we don’t require a CV or covering letter and we don’t rely solely on your past successes. During all stages, we’re more interested in how you share our values and can demonstrate your potential.

Complete the online assessment

This gives you an insight into our Group and how we support our customers and communities. You will be guided through it and it should take around 60 minutes (although don’t worry if you complete it in more/less time).

We recommend you find a quiet spot, free from distractions and have a pen, paper and calculator at hand. It’s a good idea to spend some time in our Assessment Practice Zone, to get a better idea of what you’ll be asked to do.

Step 2: Job insight assessment

This stage gives you a better understanding of the type of work you might get involved with as a graduate at Lloyds Banking Group. And it allows us to assess how you approach different challenges in a variety of true-to-life situations.

What’s involved?

The assessment takes around 60 minutes to complete so, as with our online assessment, choose a quiet spot and be prepared for any notes you may want to jot down. Again, our Assessment Practice Zone can give you a lot of insight into this assessment, so make sure you check it out.

You will be presented with multiple scenarios with several questions exploring how you would respond, as well as data for you to analyse and interpret. There will be questions where you are required to record a video or written response. These questions will be time limited.

If you need extra support

If you have a disability, long-term health or neuro-diverse condition, this may have an impact on your ability to complete the assessment. Let us know if you need extra support and we’ll be happy to discuss the adjustments we can make, such as giving you additional time. You will also have the opportunity to request additional time or other adjustments within your application form.

Useful tips

Think about why

We want to know how you feel about our industry and why it interests you. And we’d love to hear examples of how you live our values. Whether it’s your experience of volunteering or your ambitions to get involved in our charity work, how can you help us achieve our purpose of helping Britain prosper while achieving your goals too?

Consider your strengths

Strengths-based interviews are a bit different to traditional assessments. We’d like to learn what you’re naturally good at, so be prepared to show us how you do things across various exercises – on your own and within a group – on our assessment days.

Let us know if you need extra support

We recognise that everyone is different and we’ve tried to make our application process accessible to everyone. If you need access to a laptop within one of our offices, have any accessibility requirements or need any other help to complete any stage of the process, email us at lloydsbankinggrouptalent@peoplescout.co.uk or call 0345 330 4576.
