“It’s not what I expected from a bank at all.”

Max was originally looking for roles in Cyber Security but saw that LBG had an exciting opportunity in the form of the Engineering scheme where he is now.

He had no idea how much work goes on “behind the scenes” to run some of the UK's biggest banks!

Not just inclusion but acceptance

“One thing I liked about LBG was the regular #AlwaysProud campaign highlighting the work that our LGBTQ+ and ally colleagues do to further inclusion and acceptance both in and outside of work.”

Everything seemed so positive

“From interviews on the early careers website to the colleagues I spoke to at the assessment centre, everyone just seemed so positive and driven by the work they did. It really gave me an insight into the culture before I joined.”

My day to day

“I work in a squad of around 20 people. Every morning we have a “stand-up” meeting where we go around the squad and let everyone know what we’re working on. We talk about any barriers we might be facing and how to overcome them. After that, we sometimes have a “refinement” session where we talk about the future work coming up for the squad. Then, it’s just getting on with the work I said I’d do earlier!”

Multiple industry-recognised qualifications

“I’ve studied Microsoft’s Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) course and a DevOps qualification – both of which have begun to help me in my day-to-day work. We all also went on a Modern Engineering Bootcamp to introduce us to technologies like Kubernetes and Node. Fun!”

Touching our tech transformation journey

“My team is probably closer to the edge than most with the technology we use, React.js and Redux are quite modern – there are no mainframes or anything involved, but there’s still a lot of opportunities, for example in the cloud space.”

It’s the people

“I’ve never been part of a nicer group of people! Everyone’s working hard, doing their best to support both each other and the communities we serve.”

Wellbeing is hugely important to me now

“It wasn’t something I really appreciated before coming here but having so much support is so important to keep yourself healthy and happy. I’ve been using Headspace and the Healthy Minds community on Yammer site to support my wellbeing, and flexible working is something I’m keen to investigate more as I find my feet.”
