The internship was a great introduction to the professional world
“Before that I’d only ever done a few months of part-time work here and there, so this was my first real experience of the corporate world. I had an amazing team who invested so much time in me and exposed me to different areas so I could develop a broader understanding of how the bank works.”
There’s a real emphasis on learning
“I spent the first couple of weeks in training with the other interns, getting up to speed on everything. Later, I had the opportunity to shadow colleagues in different departments to find out more about their role within the bank. If there was anything I wanted to do or learn about, my manager would help me find a way to make it happen.”
My work helped to support clients in a variety of sectors
“While I was an intern I was given the opportunity to regularly attend client meetings to identify areas where we could provide support. This level of responsibility was incredibly beneficial for my confidence, as I felt like I was really contributing to the team and playing an important role. It was an amazing experience so early on in my career.”
It’s a really sociable environment
“Everyone is really welcoming – and given how closely you work with your team and the other interns, it’s easy to build your network. There’s always something going on, whether it’s five-a-side football, catching up with colleagues over a coffee, or an end-of-year Christmas social.”
I’m still in touch with the other interns
“On one of the first days we were assigned an exercise where, in teams, we had to work together to analyse a client case study and present our findings to a panel of directors. It was a great bonding experience and a lot of us are still in touch now. In fact, I met one of my closest friends there – even though we don’t work together anymore, we still try and meet up when we can.”
My words of advice to incoming interns
“Try to speak to as many people as possible – everyone at Lloyds has a huge amount of knowledge to give.”
