Protecting our customers has never been more important. We support people right across the UK, from individuals and small businesses through to large corporates, including many FTSE 100 companies. They trust us because our Risk teams are leading the way in identifying threats like market instability, high levels of customer debt and economic crime.

What you'll learn on the Risk graduate scheme

Over two years, you’ll complete multiple placements, each focusing on a different aspect of our work.

You could be learning how we analyse and assess risk to forecast future performance, or familiarising yourself with the frameworks that ensure we meet our regulatory requirements. Some Risk teams get hands-on with sophisticated data modelling techniques that help us tease out the value in information. While others help design and launch new products, including new payment technologies or new current accounts, with a focus on customer experience.

Working in our Credit teams, for example, you might give risk advice on business lending and monitor the quality of our portfolios. Or on one placement, you could get to dive deeper into a particular area, such as sustainability or climate risk.

The experiences will be varied and enlightening. And together, they’ll give you a well-rounded view of risk management. By the end of the programme, you'll have everything you need to progress in your career.

The work you could be doing

  • Getting to grips with everything Credit Risk – assessment, sanctioning, monitoring, modelling, reporting and stress testing
  • Exploring emerging risks brought about by global events, such as climate change, sustainability goals and advances in technology
  • Working to maintain relationships with our regulators, the PRA and FCA
  • Challenging our risk appetite framework of limits and controls, policies and governance across various risks, testing them against agreed standards
  • Considering transformations that simplify processes, automate decisions or improve data insights using robotics and artificial intelligence
  • Assessing our wide range of products and asset classes, while ensuring the accuracy of our front office pricing models
  • Working to design and launch new products and propositions, aligning with the necessary rules and agreeing what data and management information we’ll need to monitor its performance
  • Helping to protect our customers and business from economic crime
