Training and development

On our Graduate Leadership Programme, you’ll do plenty of learning on-the-job. But we’ll also give you loads of other training and development opportunities to help you develop professionally and personally. From gaining industry-recognised qualifications to taking part in events and away days, you’ll be given the chance to do things that inspire you, challenge you, and help you to build your career.

Developing from day to day

All of our graduate programmes are rotational. This means you’ll move from one business area to another, working with different teams – often across different cities – to experience all aspects of our work. So, as well as learning lots about our business, you’ll discover more about what you enjoy and which career path is right for you.

Of course, the colleagues you work with from day to day will be an important source of knowledge and guidance. And the relationships you build now will help you thrive throughout your career. You’ll get personal support from a ‘buddy’ within our business, and the opportunity to have a mentor too.

You can also access support through our networks: our Breakthrough women’s network, our Access Disability network, our Rainbow LGBT network, our Family Matters group, and our Reach network celebrating race, ethnicity and cultural heritage. Through these you can attend workshops, talks, networking sessions and even give or receive mentoring.

Seizing new opportunities to learn

Whichever programme you choose, you’ll also have access to our:

  • Leadership Academy
Learn about leadership and customer engagement, or communication and negotiation skills, through these technical and professional online courses. There are extra reading materials and development tools available too, to help make the ideas stick.

  • Digital Espressos and TED-style talks
These inspiration sessions are internally run and delivered by senior thought leaders and experts. Discover the latest trends and innovations in digital and FinTech (financial technology), inside and outside banking.

  • Digital Academy
If you want to develop your digital skills, or are interested in cyber security, analytics or other digital topics, explore our online resource of courses and reading materials.

  • Innovation Labs
Using workshops, surveys or new app prototypes, get involved in testing some of the latest customer propositions, products and services before they go live – and help shape our digital future.

  • Professional qualifications
Work towards an industry-recognised qualification that will take your career to the next level – and we’ll foot the bill for your studies.

  • Helping Britain Prosper Challenge
Help us support people, businesses and communities around the UK through the Helping Britain Prosper Challenge. Alongside other graduates, take on a business initiative to raise funds for a UK-wide charity.

  • Innovation Challenge
Learn about innovation frameworks and consulting methodologies, and even recommend real changes that improve our work or processes, across our business.

Our fantastic training opportunities have helped us become a Times Top 100 Graduate Employer. This means we’re recognised for helping people like you to discover who you are, what you’re good at and how you could become our leaders of the future.
