Lloyds Banking Group has carried out groundbreaking research in
2011 on the career aspirations of undergraduates and graduates with
disabilities.
"We want to attract more disabled applicants as we know there's
a large group of talented people we're not always reaching" said
Tim Taylor from the Group's Diversity & Inclusion team. "We
offer great career opportunities backed up by some leading edge
programmes for disabled colleagues such as our Access Network,
Career Development Programme and Workplace Adjustments
process."
The first ever research on this subject was carried out by Helen
Cooke from My Plus Consulting Ltd for Lloyds. Helen, who is one of
the UK's leading authorities on disabled graduate recruitment
worked with Lloyds on an online survey and focus groups of
undergraduates in Oxford and Manchester.
"The response was amazing. 665 disabled students and graduates
completed a detailed online survey. There were over 1500 responses
in all so we were able to compare the aspirations and feedback from
disabled and non-disabled people" said Helen.
As a result of the survey Lloyds is making it easier for
applicants to request adjustments and is planning specific campus
events for disabled students as part of a long-term programme to
attract more disabled applicants..
