Despite high levels of Gen Y unemployment,
nearly 6 in 10 of those who do find work are dissatisfied with
career progression and plan to move on within 2 years. Part of the
problem is that most do not buy into the long hours work culture
espoused by their managers, yet still want rapid promotion,
according to latest research from the ILM.
As an organisation we put a lot of effort
and investment into nurturing and developing Gen Y in order to
establish a pipeline of talent that will drive innovation,
organisational effectiveness and competitiveness. However, a wide
spread desire among Gen Y to move on within a few years undermines
efforts to manage talent effectively and promote long term
success.
