Diversity & Inclusion

At Lloyds Banking Group, diversity and inclusion is central to our business success. We are creating an environment where everyone can provide excellent service to our customers and develop their careers.

We firmly believe that reflecting the diversity of our 30 million customers helps us to be more successful.

Our commitment starts at the top of the organisation. Our Group Executives sponsor our gender & work-life balance, race, disability, sexual orientation and generations programmes.

We've developed a range of initiatives and strategies to ensure Lloyds Banking Group is inclusive for all colleagues.

Disability

In 2011 we carried out the first ever UK research into the career aspirations of disabled undergraduates (for full details see the news story section).

If you have a disability and need additional support through our recruitment process please let us know via the application form.

We appreciate that everyone has different needs so if you have specific questions that you want to discuss in more detail with us please contact our help desk (see apply section).

We've made some adjustments to our recruitment process, including allowing more time for candidates with dyslexia to complete tests and providing numerical tests in alternative format for candidates with visual impairments. These are just some examples, please tell us what you need to support you and we will do our best to assist.

Lloyds Banking Group offers leading edge disability programmes to support disabled employees:

  • If you need adjustments on joining, please let us know and we'll support you via our Workplace Adjustments Programme
  • We run a Career Development Programme that address the impact of disability on colleagues' entire lives and gives them tools and techniques to progress their careers into senior management
  • Our Access Disability Network provides colleague support, a mentoring scheme and an Assistive Technology User Group

Externally, we sponsor Radiate, the UK's first ever network of senior managers and directors with disabilities and long-term health conditions.

Gender and Work-Life Balance

Due to our gender equality strategy we've seen a big increase in the number of women managers and senior managers over the last decade.

Our Chairman, Sir Win Bischoff, is a member of the 30% Club, which aims to increase women's representation on the Boards of UK organisations to 30% by 2015.

All colleagues can apply to work flexibly and we offer a number of work patterns including compressed working, part-time, job share and variable hours. These policies can be really valuable to parents and carers.

Sexual Orientation

We want to create a safe and supportive environment for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) colleagues. We have a thriving network, Rainbow, which has 800 members and provides support and mentoring for LGBT colleagues across the Group. Gareth Thomas, the Welsh rugby international, one of very few openly gay sportsmen in the UK spoke at its launch event.

In 2011 Lloyds Banking Group was the top private sector employer in the Stonewall Equality Index, which over 400 organisations completed.

Race

Our Group Ethnic Minority network (GEM) provides opportunities for networking and mentoring.

We run a Career Development Programme for ethnic minority managers to help progression into senior management.

In 2010 Lloyds Banking Group sponsored Snowy Peaks, groundbreaking research by the Runnymede Trust into the career experiences of senior ethnic minority leaders in all sections of the UK economy. We are also a member of 'Race for Opportunity' the Business in the Community's campaign to promote race diversity in UK business.

Generations

Our emerging work on age focuses on the different and common needs of different generations:

  • Baby Boomers - the post war generation, born between 1945 and 1963
  • Generation X - born between 1964 and 1978
  • Generation Y - born from 1979 to 1990
