Charity of the Year fundraising update

Fourteen BHF Heart Nurses have now been funded thanks to the efforts of LBG colleagues.
The aim is to raise more than £2 million to fund 15 new BHF Heart Nurses in local communities. They will support more than 8,400 heart patients across the UK.
That target is now in sight and the aim is to go well beyond that figure in support of the British Heart Foundation.  BHF Heart Nurses provide expert care for a range of heart patients both in their homes and in hospital.

LBG fundraising will support the nurses for three years, at which point the NHS will take on responsibility for funding their work.
We are funding nurses like Nina Edwards, a BHF Cardiac Genetics Nurse at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, London; Philip Rutherford, a BHF Specialist Arrhythmia Nurse based at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital; and Alison Hume and Tricia Byres BHF Specialist Cardiac Nurses and jobshare partners in Dundee.
The nurses provide support, education and care for heart patients by monitoring and explaining their condition to them and offering advice on lifestyle, nutrition and medication.
BHF Heart Nurses empower patients and families to optimise their quality of life and to learn to live with their cardiac disease.
The nurses funded by LBG colleagues have a range of specialisms including adult congenital heart problems, supporting bereaved families and genetic issues.
