ASSESSMENT PROCESS

At Lloyds Banking Group we have a 4-5 pronged approach to assessment and selection, including ONLINE APPLICATION FORM, ONLINE NUMERICAL TEST, ONLINE INDUCTIVE REASONING TEST(Corporate Banking and Wholesale Markets & Trading only), TELEPHONE INTERVIEW AND ASSESSMENT CENTRE.

Typically within 2 - 3 weeks of successfully completing the Online tests, you will receive an invitation to book a convenient telephone interview slot, following which, upon reaching the required benchmark standards you will receive an invitation to book an assessment centre date - typically 1 -3 weeks ahead of the centre running.

Outcomes from assessment centre will be shared verbally within 2- 3 working days of the centre. This will be accompanied by some constructive feedback on how you performed. Written contracts of employment will then follow within 2 -3 weeks.

Please review the Hints & Tips relevant to each stage of the assessment and selection process.

Online Application Form

We would encourage you to allocate sufficient time to complete the application stage. It may be that you do this over a number of days when you are feeling most alert. There will be a situational judgement testing section within the application.

Online Numerical Test

This is Psychometric Test, hosted by SHL. The test is timed with multiple choice questions. From invitation to take the test, you will have 7 days in which to complete it.

These types of tests are used to help predict behaviour and performance, such as numerical reasoning.

You may want to do some preparation before completing the test so that you're comfortable with the format of the testing facility and the type of questions you can expect. Here are some useful websites you may want to have a look at:

It is recommended that whilst you work quickly you also try to be as accurate as you can. If you're stuck on a particular question, don't waste time - move on and come back to it later. If you do finish early, go over your answers to check them.

Inductive Reasoning Test

This test is only applicable to applicants for Corporate Banking OR Wholesale Markets & Trading.

This is Psychometric Test, hosted by SHL. The test is timed with multiple choice questions. From invitation to take the test, you will have 7 days in which to complete it.

These types of tests are used to help measure an applicant's problem solving abilities and capacity to think conceptually as well as analytically.

Telephone Interview

The telephone interview is an important part of the process as it gives us the opportunity to find out more about your experiences as well as providing you with an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about working at Lloyds Banking Group.

Please prepare specific examples where you can extract lots of detail. Examples may be from university, work, sports or other groups you may have been part of.

A useful technique for structuring your example is "STAR" which is an acronym for:

SITUATION AND TASK

  • Describe the situation/task you needed to accomplish.
  • Be specific - don't give a generalised description of what you have done in the past.
  • Be sure to give enough detail for the interviewer to understand.

ACTION

  • Describe the action you took - keep the focus on you.
  • What specifically was your involvement?
  • Don't say what you might have done, say what you did.

RESPONSE

  • What happened?
  • How did the event end?
  • What did you accomplish?
  • What did you learn?
  • What would you have done differently?

... and remember:

Answer the question that you've been asked, not one that you want to be asked.

Preparation is key, come with a good understanding of Lloyds Banking Group and the market in which we compete in.

Assessment Centre

Our Assessment Centres this year are based in 3 locations: London, Birmingham and Leeds.

The assessment centre is centred on a typical day of a Graduate in the Financial Services Industry. Throughout the day you will participate in an analysis exercise and group exercise and have a face to face competency based interview.

The analysis exercise will require candidates to analyse a case study and prepare a presentation of their findings.

The group exercise will require you to participate in an interactive debate with other candidates.

The competency based interview provides the opportunity to demonstrate skills and experience across the following competencies: Judgement, Drive, Execution and Influence. For this interview it would be useful to re visit the examples you were able to share at telephone interview stage and expand on these to ensure you have provided the best examples to demonstrate the competencies which will be assessed.

The STAR model will be a useful technique for structuring your competency examples. "STAR" is an acronym for:
